Description

Costume design for Almost, Maine.

This is the first garment I've ever constructed on my own.

For the sake of a contest, here is some information on this rendering:
A.  Play: Almost, Maine, by John Cariani
B.  Production type: Academic production
B.  Redering medium: Photoshop rendering with a Wacom Bamboo Tablet
C.  Time needed for rendering: Probably a good six hours with edits by the director.
D.  Construction time: This costume was built solely by myself with mentoring by our costume shop director. I think it took about five hours a day over the course of a week.
E.  What parts of the costume are recycled from other costumes? Just her accessories which are from our stock.
F.  What odd terrible awful nasty challenges did you have to overcome to make this costume as good as it was? Constructing the top was horrible. figuring out how to make it fold correctly and stay together was particularly difficult. It was also hard to get it to fit the access without her actually being there as her proportions were shorter than the mannequin's
G. What is the BEST thing about the costume rendering or final real costume? I always feel accomplished then the actor feels comfortable in what they are wearing. The actress had been apprehensive at first, but loved it in the end.
H. Most important!  How much of the costume had to change from the rendering (the dream) to get into reality? Mostly fabric treatments. i ditched the gradient of the skirt for the sake of time and the lace overlay on the top for aesthetic. I also (unintentionally) flipped the overlap of the skirt.

Awesome! I love that you put the finished product next to the design. This is much more complicated than the costume I had to make for my play!
